Policy/Regulation Fact Sheet
For this Assignment, you will examine a recent nursing informatics-related healthcare policy and share relevant details via a fact sheet designed to inform and educate colleagues in your organization. First you want to concisely explain the policy/regulation you selected. Then you need to explain the impact of the policy/regulation on four areas:
• System implementation – The implementation of Health IT systems
• Clinical care
• Patient/provider interactions – Directly address the interactions between patients and their providers
• Workflow
Finally, you will identify organizational policies and procedures that are or will be in place at your healthcare organization to address the policy/regulation you selected. Below are the instructions from Module 6.
FORMAT THIS ASSIGNMENT AS A FACT SHEET, NOT AN ACADEMIC PAPER. A Fact Sheet displays key information, facts and figures, in a visual manner using bullet points, tables, graphs, charts, and images. It is a single page document displayed in a visual format to emphasize key information. To Prepare:
• Review the Resources on healthcare policy and regulatory/legislative topics related to health and nursing informatics.
• Consider the role of the nurse informaticist in relation to a healthcare organization’s compliance with various policies and regulations, such as the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).
• Research and select one health or nursing informatics policy (within the past 5 years) or regulation for further study. HIPAA and the HITECH-ACT were enacted over 10 years ago, they do not meet the criteria to choose a policy/regulation that has been enacted in the last five years.
The Assignment: (1 page)
Create a 1-page fact sheet that your healthcare organization could hypothetically use to explain the health or nursing informatics policy/regulation you selected. Your fact sheet should address the following:
• Briefly and generally explain the policy or regulation you selected.
• Address the impact of the policy or regulation you selected on system implementation.
• Address the impact of the policy or regulation you selected on clinical care, patient/provider interactions, and workflow.
• Highlight organizational policies and procedures that are/will be in place at your healthcare organization to address the policy or regulation you selected. Be specific.
As you are required to integrate references (3 outside peer reviewed articles from scholarly journals and 2 course resources) in your Fact Sheets, you can either use a regular in-text citation (author(s), date) or a numbering system. Remember to include a reference to the informatics legislation or regulation you selected.
