Types of Statistical Analyses Matrix Directions:

Develop a matrix that shows the uses of:

• Descriptive statistics
  • the specific types of measures of central tendency
  • the specific types of measures of variability
• Inferential statistics
  • t-tests
  • ANOVA
  • regression analyses
  • various correlational analyses
  • chi-square

In your matrix, indicate the purpose of each test, and give a simple description/example of when you would choose each one (e.g., “when you want to know blood pressure compares between a  control group and a group that gets an experimental hypertension drug”)

Be sure to indicate whether the tests

• provide information about significance of differences between groups
• provide information about significance of relationships between variables
• provide information about a single sample vs. two or more samples
• are parametric or nonparametric
