The case scenario concerns a 66-year-old female presenting with sudden-onset diaphoresis, nausea, vomiting, and shortness of breath, accompanied by band-like upper chest pain radiating to the left arm.  The patient’s health needs include possible angina pectoris owing to positive symptoms like diaphoresis, nausea, vomiting, and chest pain radiating to the left arm. The positive history of HTN, Dyslipidemia, and MI may have contributed to Angina pectoris (Manfredi et al., 2022). In addition, the patient has developed myocardial ischemia based on positive diagnostic findings like ST-segment depression in leads II, III, and aVF, positive cardiac enzymes, and hyperdynamic T waves. The patient also has a possible kidney insufficiency due to elevated creatinine levels.

The treatment regimen for this patient will aim to alleviate symptoms of Angina pectoris. The pharmacologic therapy will include a vasodilator, Beta blocker, Calcium channel blocker (CCB), antiplatelet, and morphine. Nitroglycerin is the vasodilator drug of choice. It dilates coronary arteries to increase oxygen to the myocardium and dilates peripheral vessels so the heart does not have to work so hard to pump blood (Ford & Berry, 2020). Beta-blocker will include metoprolol or atenolol to reduce myocardial oxygen consumption by blocking beta-adrenergic sympathetic stimulation to the heart (Rousan & Thadani, 2019). CCB will include Nifedipine, which decreases sinoatrial node automaticity and atrioventricular node conduction, resulting in a slower heart rate and a decrease in the strength of the heart muscle contraction.  Aspirin will be the antiplatelet agent of choice to prevent platelet aggregation (Ford & Berry, 2020). Morphine will be recommended to relieve chest pain.

The teach-back method will be my recommended patient education strategy for this patient. Talevski et al. (2020) explain that Teach-back entails asking patients to explain in their words what the health provider has just told them. Misunderstandings are clarified by the provider, and understanding the patient’s understanding is assessed again (Bodenheimer, 2018). The teach-back strategy improves knowledge, skills, and self-care abilities in persons with chronic conditions.

Be sure to justify your response. Explain a patient education strategy you might recommend for assisting your patient with the management of their health needs. Be specific and provide examples.
