Leading and Managing High-Value Healthcare Essay
Leading and Managing High-Value Healthcare Essay
Practice change projects heavily depend on human and material resources for implementation and sustainability. The various human and material resources needed in implementing practice change projects depend on the type of the project, the institution and the target population. As a leader, the advanced practice nurse is responsible for identifying the resources required to implement the project and galvanizing them for use. This discussion focuses on the material and human resources required to address practice problems, the role of the advanced practice nurse in addressing the problem, and project leadership strategies.
One of the most significant practice problems is high turnover rates. According to Lee and Kim (2020), turnover in the nursing workforce is a major practice problem mainly caused by high-stress levels in the workplace, conflicts, and a high workload. A practice change project to address the high turnover rates would address workplace conflicts and stress factors. Therefore, the material resources needed to support the practice change solution include finances, physical space, and training materials. The human resources include a working project team, management/directors in the institution, and the nursing staff. Busch et al. (2019) note that human and material resources are the most significant aspects in practice change implementation, thus, should be identified and managed effectively to lead to successful practice change.
The advanced-practice nurse can contribute to addressing the nursing staff turnover problem in several ways. The first way is advocating for workplace condition improvement in the institution. Secondly, the nurse can propose strategies to reduce workplace-related stressors, thus improving working conditions and increasing nurses’ job satisfaction. Additionally, the advanced practice nurse can develop policies and suggest them to the quality improvement team for assessment and implementation, thus creating a long-term solution for the problem.
Successful implementation of practice change projects requires effective management and the adoption of robust leadership strategies (Zaman et al., 2019). The leadership strategies to address nursing staff turnover include working with a team, creating a representative team, empowering the team to work together, having an implementation plan, and monitoring and evaluating the implementation process.
Practice change projects require human and material resources for successful implementation. The advanced-practice nurse plays a significant role in developing solutions for practice problems. Leadership strategies, such as working with a team and having an implementation plan, are essential in enhancing practice change project success.
