One of the scholarly activities that I went through outside the clinical practice was attending a conference. The conference was held in one of the conference rooms at a hotel in the city. I learned about the conference from one of my friends who is a practicing nurse. Some of the people available included the nurse leaders, nurse educators, nursing students, and practicing nurses. The various groups of people made it easy for people to interact freely since they all had the same aim, to learn more about improving patient care. We have always been encouraged to attend scholarly activities so that we can learn more about their profession. I chose to go to the conference because I wanted to interact more with people with whom we share the same passion. This was my first scholarly activity, and I tried to grasp more information about nursing and learn more from the nurse leaders and educators. Nursing conferences are known to bring together people who share the same goals. I wanted to be among the people working towards enhancing healthcare in our country. I wanted to attend the educative sessions to learn more about the latest research findings used in the nursing practice. This would help me understand where I should focus on being a dedicated nurse who aims to deliver quality care to patients.
The conference made me interact with various leaders who are in the healthcare department. One of the main reasons I chose to go to the conference is to learn about the latest evidence-based practices and research in my field. I have learned that nursing should incorporate the use of EBP so that all patients receive quality patient care. During the conference, I also learned about project management. As a nursing student, it is important to note key points about project management to make it easy to handle various projects with minimal or no supervision. The different speakers at the conference showed us some of the projects that have been completed successfully. Therefore, it is easy for me to work on a project and deliver quality work.
I also learned the importance of having good communication skills during the conference. Nurses are very critical in healthcare since they are one of the healthcare workers that interact more with patients. Following this, I learned how good communication skills help in strengthening the relationship between the patients and the healthcare providers. One of my future professional goals is to become an experienced nurse leader who aims to deliver the best patient care to all patients. Besides, as a nurse leader, I will ensure that I work between the patients and the nurses to help the two interact well and work together towards achieving quality care. As discussed during the meeting, nurses are the backbones of good health since they are at the forefront of dealing with the patients and their families. Consequently, I want to be at the front line, ensuring that I encourage other nurses to work hard to help achieve the set goals and objectives.
Attending the conference was indeed an excellent experience for me. I grew not only professionally but also socially. I interacted with various persons I could contact if I needed any professional help while on duty. The people at the conference were very friendly ad ready to help. I plan to attend more scholarly activities to continue learning more about being a better nurse and working towards providing quality healthcare for all.
