Health Assessment Reflection
Completing normal and abnormal physiology related to head, eye, nose, ears, and throat has been both exciting and challenging. I undertook several steps when completing the assessment. The first one is ensuring that I am knowledgeable about the HEENT system. The knowledge helped understand the different condition, their presentations, differential diagnoses and management. I also researched extensively to ensure I reach evidence-based conclusions in the different case studies presented in the model. I also relied on collaboration with my classmates to increase my understanding of complex issues(Perry et al., 2019). The collaboration also helped me learn other concepts that I found them difficult to understand.
Some difficulties can be experienced when completing HEENT assessment. One of them is developing an accurate diagnosis of a health problem. Some of the HEENT conditions have closely related symptoms. The development of accurate diagnoses requires one to be well-versed with the pathophysiological processes of HEENT conditions. The other difficulty that could be experienced is selecting an appropriate treatment for patients from diverse backgrounds. For example, treating a child with HEENT conditions may be a challenge since most of the available treatments are off-label.
Several strategies can be adopted to overcome the difficulties encountered when completing assessment. One of them is being orderly. The assessment should follow the steps of physical assessment to enable the acquisition of accurate information. The second strategy is being competent. One should be skillful in obtaining both subjective and objective data from the patients. The data would guide the determination of the client’s cause of the health problem. Lastly, one should embrace teamwork(Rasheed et al., 2019). Team assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation should be adopted to ensure the promotion of optimum care outcomes.
