Disparities of health are defined as the gaps realized in the quality of health and healthcare based on ethnicity, the socio-economic status of individuals, and individual race. The health disparities are not just limited to socio-economic status, ethnicity, and race. However, they cut across age, sexual orientation of individuals, personal characteristics, and the choices of lifestyles (Patel et al., 2020). For instance, low-income individuals, people from different ethnic groups deemed marginalized, and individuals with unique sexual orientations, like gays, tend to face discrimination. This makes it difficult to afford quality care compared to others. Therefore, the need to address such disparities is essential.
Developing social determinants of health initiatives in the community helps address such disparities and improve the quality of life for everyone. Such involves targeting the social determinants leading to inequality, like income inequality, and creating a partnership that involves every sector in the community. As a result, it will create a fair and equitable community that will focus on dealing with discrimination and other issues related to equality.
