Topic 9 DQ 1
Professional presentation skills are critical in helping nursing students convey information and convince relevant stakeholders to implement changes that can positively impact patients’ healthcare and healthcare organizations. One of my professional presentation strengths is conducting thorough research about the given topic by ensuring early preparations and avoiding unnecessary procrastination (Kvint et al., 2020). This is crucial in providing sufficient time to edit and re-edit the content of the presentation to enhance clarity and organization before formally making the final presentation before the intended audience. Conversely, one of my professional presentation weaknesses is fear of the crowd. Usually, I tend to become uneasy and tense while making a presentation before a huge crowd of audience. This leads to failure to convey my ideas succinctly and clearly (Clarke et al., 2022). Moreover, the fear leads to failure to communicate adequate information as earlier planned.
The strategy for improvement entails thorough presentation preparation and rehearsal (Pierce, 2021). This strategy involves making a presentation in advance to ensure it is clear and concise. This strategy can be achieved by presenting the topic before a group of trusted friends or family members or recording the presentation and watching back. This is critical in strengthening the presentation confidence and skills and also providing a platform for constructive criticism that can inform adjustments to the presentation and enhance presentation delivery (Pierce, 2021). The importance of working on presentation skills when planning to convey the findings in a more formal setting is to boost presentation confidence. Confidence is crucial in motivating the audience to trust the content delivered. Working on these skills also helps in delivering the content with reasonable speed and also helps to be knowledgeable and updated on the topic being presented.
