Assignment: Developing Organizational Policies and Practices

Developing Organizational Policies and Practices
Health organizations and their leadership develop policies and practices that help address competing needs emanating from identified national health issues or stressors like the rising cost of care that impacts all aspects of care delivery, including regulations and standardization of prices for aesthetic procedures like dermal fillers (Broome & Marshall, 2021). Regulations and standardization of prices for aesthetic products are essential yet competing needs that affect access to resources and achieved revenue levels by clinical practices.

Competing Needs
Dermal fillers are accessible or available at a discounted rate to practices based on the volume of purchase. As such, these prices persuade practices to only offer products based on the buying price or cost and not what is best to offer quality patient outcomes. The competing needs include having better prices for aesthetic facial products that provide or lead to the greatest outcomes for patients. Therefore, facilities like our clinical practice should develop transparent policies for all staff to prioritize quality products that guarantee quality outcomes as opposed to seeking products with discounted rates that do not guarantee patient safety and quality outcomes (Ashley, 2023). The implication is that having inferior aesthetic products increases the cost of care since such products have adverse effects on patients and do not result in quality outcomes.
Relevant Policy or Practice
A pricing transparency strategy or practice can help patients make better decisions and enhance trust among the providers and patients. Developing a policy that focuses on a pricing approach where all clinical workers should follow the guidelines will be critical in addressing the issue. Cost-effective practice management will focus on interventions to reduce operational expenses while providing high-quality care (Hermans et al., 2024). For instance, the facility or clinic can negotiate better rates with suppliers and adopt better technologies like better inventory control. Through these strategies, the organization should consider the cost of consumables and not ignore the actual product.
Critique of Policy or Practice for Ethical Consideration
A critical analysis of the suggested policy demonstrates that it will enhance the trust, integrity, and reliability of the providers and organization. The proposed policy is effective and will ensure that patients and their families understand the prices and possible outcomes of using certain aesthetic products so that they make better decisions or informed choices. A core ethical challenge that may arise is the secrecy of the organization’s possible profits or revenue (Milliken, 2018). While disclosures are essential to develop trust with all stakeholders, certain aspects of the policies cannot be disclosed due to confidentiality and privacy of intellectual property rights.
Despite the ethical challenge that may arise, the proposed practice and policy will enhance transparency and help the organization not to rely on one individual in determining products and procedures in the clinical setting. Relying on one person and without an existing policy means that additional providers hired may elect to utilize other products and procedures which can be harmful to patients because of their poor outcomes. The policy will ensure that there are mandatory meetings to agree on the implementation and associated changes to aesthetic products and procedures (Hermans et al., 2024). For instance, the policy should be categorical that providers need to support every procedure with evidence-based research to avoid ethical problems. The policy ensures that nurses adhere to appropriate professional standards and codes of ethics. The policy ensures that professionals offer quality care and protect patients from harm.
Policy or Practice to Balance Competing Needs
Education and awareness campaigns are required to manage patient expectations and reduce or prevent unnecessary procedures. The facility needs to develop comprehensive patient education materials and workshops to ensure patients understand the benefits and risks related to each procedure (Crowley et al., 2020). The practices will allow the providers to identify possible adverse events that can be managed without a visit to emergency departments when they happen.
Conclusion
Competing needs in healthcare facilities affect identified health stressors and issues like the rising cost of care. Organizations and clinical practices should identify policies and practices that help them enhance ethical aspects with providers and other stakeholders like patients. The proposed strategies, practices, and policies will be critical to addressing the identified competing needs leading to adverse events and increased cost of care for patients seeking non-surgical facial aesthetic procedures in the facility.

Information for assignment- I have attached part 1 for review

Ideas for competing needs

Regulation and standardization of pricing- In aesthetics dermal fillers are available at a discounted rate to practices based on purchase volume- often persuades practices to only offer products based on purchase price- not what may best for outcomes. Application could be a pricing transparency initiative to help patients make informed decisions and foster trust

Cost-effective practice management- Focus on strategies to reduce operational costs while maintaining high quality of care. Application could include negotiating better rates with suppliers or adopting technology such as better inventory control- often, the cost of consumables other than the actual product is overlooked.

Education and awareness campaigns are needed to manage patient expectations and reduce unnecessary procedures. The application could develop comprehensive patient education materials and workshops to ensure patients understand the benefits and risks associated with procedures and to help identify possible adverse events that can be managed without a visit to urgent care and emergency departments.

My problem is in a small private clinic that is about to expand rapidly, we currently do not have any policy to address these issues. The surgeon mainly relies solely on me to determine our products and procedures. Potentially, this could cause an issue as we hire additional providers that may elect to use other products and procedures. We need a policy incorporating mandatory meetings to agree on implementation and change related to these issues. All procedures need to be backed by evidence-based research so as not to be influenced by ethics
