ASSIGNMENT: NURS 101 WEEK 4 REFLECTIVE NARRATIVE USING LEARN FORMAT AND LEARNING OUTCOME USING SMART FORMA
Reflective Narrative
Looking Back
Growing up as a child, my parents always taught us about the importance of healthy diets and physical activity. My sisters and I used to engage in active physical activities such as playing tennis and football in our home compound. Our parents also used to bring healthy foods including fruits and fresh vegetables. Through the above, I gained healthy weight and had good health. However, I think I stopped following the teachings a few months ago, as I recently noticed that I have gained 10kgs in body weight. I also find somehow difficult engaging in active physical activities and strenuous tasks. I think it is now time to change my lifestyle and behaviors.

Elaborate
My current body weight is bad. I am almost becoming overweight. I need to adopt effective lifestyle and behavioral interventions to reverse the potential health effects of being overweight or obese. I did not realize that I was gaining weight initially. I have been intensively engaged in academics and personal life, which have made it difficult for me to stick to healthy living plan that I am accustomed to since my childhood. I am surprised that I may be overweight in the next few months if I do not adopt responsive interventions to improve my health and wellbeing.
Analyze
I am deeply concerned about my weight because it is one of the predictors of poor health outcomes and low quality of life. Being overweight is associated with challenges of undertaking active physical activities. It also has a negative effect on one’s self-esteem and identity. Weight-related issues such as overweight and obesity predispose people to health problems such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease (Gregg & Shaw, 2017). Consequently, I feel bad about my current situation, as I am highly predisposed to a wide range of health issues. As noted initially, my increase in body weight is largely attributed to my neglect of the need for healthy lifestyle and behaviors. I have been engaging in sedentary lifestyles such as taking foods with high salts and carbohydrates and engaging minimally in physical activity. I was not aware of the effect of the lifestyle and behavioral decisions on my health until recently when I decided to weigh myself. Therefore, I have to change my dietary habits and engage in active physical activities, as they contribute to lowering of body weight and alleviation of the health risks associated with overweight and obesity.
Revise
One of the things that I will do differently now henceforth is eating healthy diets. I will eat diets with balanced nutrition. I will increase my dietary intake of vegetables and fruits and minimize intake of carbohydrates and fats to facilitate my weight loss. I will also engage in active physical activity on a daily basis to promote my cardiovascular health (Semlitsch et al., 2019). I will also revert to the healthy lifestyles and behaviors that my parents taught me in my childhood. The strength within me that will facilitate the desired change is that I know about the healthy lifestyles and behaviors that I need to adopt for weight change (Ranjan et al., 2018). I however have to deal with the challenge of cravings for unhealthy diets.
New Perspective
One of the things that I have learned from my experience is the importance of healthy lifestyle and behaviors. I have learned that unhealthy lifestyles and behaviors have a drastic effect on our health and wellbeing. Therefore, I will utilize the lessons learned to educate my patients about the importance of healthy lifestyles. I will guide them in developing healthy routines to minimize their predisposition to health problems.
Learning Outcome/Goal
By the end of six months, I should have reduced by body weight by 5Kgs by engaging in active physical activity and eating healthy diets.
