The analysis of the entire course objectives reveals different forms of information that learners will acquire. After careful examination of the course content, I am more familiar with topic three objectives. As a professional nurse who has been engaged in different research processes, I understand the diverse ethical guidelines for conducting translational research and any other form of study in the nursing practice. My professional background has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the ethical and legal considerations related to translating research into practice (Huria et al., 2019). Respecting the autonomy and informed consent of research participants, maintaining confidentiality and protecting sensitive information, adhering to cultural norms and customs, and ensuring that the translation is accurate and unbiased (Farrugia, 2019). Additionally, there may be legal requirements for obtaining permission to use copyrighted materials in the translation, and for ensuring that the translated research is compliant with regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) (Neufeld et al., 2019). The knowledge will prove to be invaluable as I progress through the course and apply what I have learned to my work as a nurse. Overall, this course will lead to a comprehensive understanding of the various aspects of nursing research and how to apply them in practice.
While topic three may prove to be the most engaging aspect of this course, I must prioritize topic four due to my lack of familiarity with its objectives. Specifically, I must make a concerted effort to grasp the idea of reliability and validity in research design, as well as the techniques for preserving the integrity of translational research. Furthermore, I will need to direct my attention towards the hurdles associated with both research design and data collection methods.
The main course-related topic that I would like to discuss with my instructor and classmates is the application of quantitative research in nursing practice and the relationship between quantitative and translational research. The utilization of quantitative research methodologies in nursing practice can provide valuable insights and evidence to inform clinical decision making (Bonner et al., 2019). However, it is also important to consider the relationship between quantitative and translational research, as the latter aims to bridge the gap between basic research and clinical practice. I plan to engage my instructor and classmates in a discussion of how these two research approaches can be used in conjunction to enhance the quality of patient care. Through this discussion, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the potential benefits and limitations of utilizing quantitative research in nursing practice, and the role of translational research in facilitating the implementation of evidence-based practices.
