D027 FAQs

OneNote E-portfolio FAQ’s

  • I need help setting up OneNote and my e-portfolio.

E-Portfolio Setup: To begin, refer to the “e-Portfolio Instructions” in unit 1 in the COS. Next, refer to the MSN Core sample e-portfolio also in unit 1 to see how the deliverables are organized. Students are encouraged to utilize the Writing Center if needed for assistance with this exercise. The Writing Center Instructors cannot edit or proofread your paper in part or in total, nor can they say whether or not a task is ready to submit or if it will pass. If you have issues accessing GoReact through the CPE Record links, please contact the WGU Help Desk at 1-877-HELP-WGU (877-435-7948).

Access Issues with Link to OneNote e-Portfolio: Please ensure the link to your OneNote E-Portfolio is accessible when submitting the CPE for evaluation. You may need to reset the steps to submit the E-Portfolio. Follow the OneNote-e-Portfolio Instructions. Go to Submit E-Portfolio Link to Evaluation and be sure to select People in Western Governors University with the link in the Share dialog box.

CPE FAQ

  • Are completion of the CPE and the Shadow Health simulation required before I take my pre-assessment or objective assessment?

No, but it will maximize your chances of success on the OA. We do recommend completing the CPE before you attempt your pre-assessment or your objective assessment. Completing these learning activities first will help you review any potential content areas that might show up on the OA. Ultimately the decision is up to you.

  • How do I access Go React?

You can access Go React by using this link:

 https://lrps.wgu.edu/provision/173986768

  • Is APA required? If so, what edition is required?

The rubric used does not currently evaluate APA adherence however we would recommend that you use the 7th edition APA for citations and your reference list to maintain a professional appearance of your e-Portfolio.

  • Phase 3 directs me to choose patients from Shadow Health. Where can I access Shadow Health?

The Shadow Health link is located in the cardiovascular section of Unit 4 in the Course of Study.

  • In phase 3, do I need to choose two different diagnoses for each synthesis, or can I pick one for both syntheses?

Phase 3 requires a healthcare consumer focused synthesis and an APN focused synthesis. The rubric does not currently enforce the need for 2 different topics for each synthesis. You can choose 1 diagnosis/topic and write each synthesis towards the appropriate audience or choose 2 diagnoses/topics. We recommend choosing 2 topics because it will help in preparing you for the objective assessment. Again, it is up to you how to proceed with this phase.

  • What is a synthesis?

An overview (summary) of the requested content.

*Do not forget-one-page length requirement*

  • How do I keep my synthesis at 1 page length yet cover the needed requirements of each phase?

Keep in mind that a synthesis is not a comprehensive review that requires all there is to know about any of the topics. It is more of a concise summary. For each variable required (e.g. pathophysiology, pharmacology, etc.), you can write one paragraph. For example, if I chose hypertension as a topic, I could write a paragraph about the arterial changes for the pathophysiology component and then maybe just the top medication category used to manage the disease for the pharmacology aspect.

It is your choice how to approach it but just remember it does not have to be conclusive of all information available.

  • What is a Feedback Synthesis Improvement Plan?

Each phase requires that you present your synthesis to a certain population and get their feedback. The Feedback and Synthesis Improvement Plan is providing that feedback and stating how you will apply it. I think most students place this under the synthesis within the e-Portfolio.

  • What are the most common reason for the CPE to be returned for revisions?

The evaluation for the CPE is more of an audit for completeness versus evaluation of writing. The most common revisions occur when a required aspect is missing.

The most common are:

  • CPE Record was not uploaded as a separate document when submitting the task.
  • A CPE Timetable was not provided in the e-Portfolio and or it was provided but the time in minutes/hours was not reported.
  • A Feedback Synthesis Improvement Plan was not included in all phases.
  • The GoReact screenshots (3 for each phase) were not provided for each phase.
  • The evaluator was not able to view the e-Portfolio with the link provided by the student.

OA FAQ

  • Where can I find a list of Lab Values?

“Please access common laboratory values in the McCance & Huether (2019) Pathophysiology textbook “Endsheet” at the very end of the textbook.”

  • How many questions are on the Objective Assessment?

The OA has 50 multiple-choice format questions.

  • What score do I need to pass the OA?

Like the NCLEX, there is not a specific percentage provided as a “passing score”. Once completing the pre-assessment, the coaching report will show which category types have the highest percentage of questions on the exam. Aim to get a “competent” score on those categories with the higher percentage of questions on the exam.

  • How many attempts are available to pass the OA, and is the exam the same with each attempt?

There are only 4 attempts available to pass the OA and questions are not the same with each attempt.

  • How similar is the Pre-Assessment to the OA?

Based on student feedback, the overall format and style of question is similar, but question content is different. Regardless, we still recommend reviewing the questions and answers accessible on the pre-assessment coaching report. If any questions happen to be repeated, you will know the answer.

  • If I pass the pre-assessment does that mean I am competent to take the OA?

The preassessment is not accurate at predicting performance on the OA, therefore we recommend using it as a tool to determine where to spend more time studying versus using it as a tool for OA readiness. We have had it worked both ways where students pass pre-assessment and then fail the OA, and vice versa where they fail the pre-assessment and then pass the OA.

  • What is the best way to prepare for the OA?

We have resources in the “Course Tips” tab in the Course of Study to help you prepare for the OA.

  • What happens if I do not pass the OA?

First, do not feel like your world is coming to an end if this happens. While we want everyone to pass on their first attempt, it has not always worked that way for everyone.

The OA is considered a high-stakes exam because there are only 4 attempts available, and the exam questions may be different with each attempt. A remediation process is required with each failed attempt. A five-day waiting period is required between a 3rd and 4th attempt. Students should schedule an appointment with their instructor for remediation.

Typically, when a student does not pass the objective assessment, it is because they did not complete the course of study activities and follow the recommendations outlined in the D027 recorded cohort located in the “course tips” tab in the Course of Study. It is better to do it right the first time instead of taking your chances without preparing.

  • What if I fail the objective assessment and I only have two days left in the term?

Your program mentor is the best resource to discuss options regarding pushing an unfinished course forward into another term. There are options available which can be discussed with your assigned course instructor if you fall into this situation. Our best advice is to plan ahead and allow enough time for remediation if it is necessary. If the course is pushed forward into the next term, your attempts on the OA do not reset. Take advantage of every attempt available to pass the OA and not rush in unprepared because of course deadline goals or term end dates.

Please remember every situation is unique and your program mentor is the best person to help you navigate your timeline and degree plan.

  • When taking the OA, when will I find out that if I passed?

Once you finish the objective assessment, a coaching report will be available in the same location the preassessment coaching report was located. This will show your overall performance and category specific performances.

  • How do I schedule the OA?

When you open the course of study, there will be a yellow button labeled ‘Schedule Now’. Clicking this button will take you to the proctoring website where you can review technology requirements and schedule the day and time you would prefer to take the OA.

  • Do I need a separate WebCam when taking the OA?

Yes, a separate WebCam is required because the proctoring service will need to monitor you at your testing environment and the cameras built into most laptops and larger computers will not work for this purpose. You can purchase an inexpensive WebCam yourself or contact the IT department to guide you with the technical requirements.
