Implicit bias is the most common bias in nursing. Implicit bias occurs when nurses differ from patients’ opinions and orientations. Nurses’ bias is common towards the elderly, LGBTQ persons, and obese patients, owing to their implications for health. Implicit bias interferes with the quality of care they receive, safety, and patient satisfaction. Most of these biases arise unconsciously, affecting the quality of research by ignoring essential facts to suit their interests (Buetow, 2019). Such biases in nursing research interfere with the results and provide information that cannot be generalized to the general population. The joint commission recommends that nurses use emotional regulation to help avoid implicit bias (Narayan, 2019). Narayan (2019) also states other interventions to help prevent bias that include habit replacement (changing these harmful behaviors) and mindfulness (emptying distracting thoughts).

Attribution by mentioning authors in research articles is standard practice. These articles used for the research used Vancouver in-text citations and references, which use Arabic numbers in round brackets and a corresponding number in the reference list (Purdue Online Writing Lab, n.d.). Unlike other citation styles, this style gives less attention to the authors or does not mention the author. The referencing style uses numbers in round brackets to cite a source. There is no mention of the authors at all. The referencing style only mentions the authors in the reference lists; hence little attribution

Contrary to the public opinion that most nursing publications use APA, nursing articles use Vancouver referencing style, synonymous with the medicine referencing styles. However, some websites, such as owlpurdue.edu, recommend APA in nursing papers (Purdue Online Writing Lab, n.d.). Other styles include the MLA, which is rarely used in nursing publications.
