Intervention

The capstone change project is prevention violence in psychiatry hospitals by using the Broset score. Psychiatry patients are at risk of harm to themselves, other patients, and healthcare workers due to increased incidences of violence. One of the interventions for violence prevention is utilizing the Broset score, which involves using the Broset violence checklist to predict violence in aggressive patients. The behaviors that are likely to lead to violence include boisterous, physical threats, attacking objects, verbal threats, irritability, and confusion. Use of the Broset scoring guide will prevent the occurrence of violent behaviors in the psychiatry facility. Teaching the healthcare workers how to apply the Broset score is the priority in preventing violence.

Evidence-based Literature

The articles reviewed aim to use the Broset score to prevent violence, although they have different objectives and research questions. Most of the articles aim to determine how the Broset violence checklist can be used to assess and prevent violence and determine the patients requiring intense nursing care for violence. The study by Sarver et al. (2019) states that violence in psychiatry facilities negatively impacts the patients and the healthcare workers. The study compares different Broset violence checklist scores and incidences of violence and compares the high score and the need for high-level nursing interventions. The study by Theruvath-Chalil et al. 2020 investigates the use of the Broset violence checklist in minimizing the incidents of violence in psychiatry facilities.

The study aims to determine and investigate the use of the Broset score to prevent violence in psychiatry facilities. Another objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Broset score in assessing violent behaviors before the occurrence of violence to prevent violence.

Resources Needed

Resources needed in my capstone change project included finances, human resources, leadership and management, and materials such as the Broset violence checklist. Communication is also vital in the capstone change project since it will help keep the involved stakeholders updated on its progress. Money is needed to purchase material such as the Broset checklists (Li et al., 2018). Funds are also required to pay the trainers and compensate the healthcare workers for their time to attend the training.

Human resources are important resources in the successful implementation of this change project. They include the trainers, the healthcare staff to be trained on using the Broset score, and the management team. Leadership is important in influencing the implementation of the change project by setting policies that favor the project’s implementation (Rubel, 2019).

Measurable Outcomes

The project’s measurable outcome is reducing the incidences of violence in the psychiatry hospital. Violence in the psychiatric facility is common due to aggressive behaviors in most patients. The other measurable outcome is the increased use of the Broset score in the psychiatry facility to assess the risk of violence. Broset violence checklist help assess the violent behaviors in psychiatry patients. Those with the highest scores are at the highest risk of violence (Sarver et al., 2019).

How the Intervention will be Evaluated

The best way to evaluate my project would be the summative evaluation technique, also known as end-term evaluation. Summative evaluation occurs at the end of the project implementation (Boothroyd, 2018). Summative evaluation would be beneficial in determining the success of my evidence-based project since it would identify the utilization of the Broset score, the competency of health professionals in applying the score, and the efficacy of the score. It would also track violent incidents in the facility to assess the project’s performance and efficacy.
