Nurses play a significant role in enhancing patient outcomes and ensuring that patients feel safe and respected in the care environment. As such, nurses use various care aspects to achieve such goals. In addition, it is important to focus on care, such as spiritual care, which may align with the needs of some patients. Spiritual care refers to a holistic approach to healthcare that seeks to address the spiritual needs of individuals and recognize that well-being entails more than physical health (Willemse et al.,2020). The implication is that spiritual care is a dimension of patient-centered or holistic care. It is important to note that spiritual care may have different definitions and can vary from one individual to another. In addition, the definition of spiritual care can also be different in the Christian worldview, and there may also be different definitions in care settings.

My definition of spiritual care compares with the Christian definition of spiritual care. My definition shares various aspects with the Christian definition; for example, the definitions have aspects of the need to address the individual’s sense of meaning and purpose in life. The Christian definition of spiritual care entails the provision of pastoral care, guidance, and support that focuses on addressing individual spiritual needs (Kleiven et al.,2021). In my own perspective, I believe that spiritual care should consider the aspect that human beings are also spiritual beings, apart from being emotional and physical beings. As such, they need to connect with God and have a sense of purpose. As such, spiritual care, as part of holistic care, should lead a patient to have faith in God and believe that healing always comes from God. Scripture and religious teachings and prayer, therefore, should be at the center of this kind of care (Damberg et al.,2020)
