Advanced practice nursing requires various considerations at the personal level. Some of these considerations are self-care, self-leadership, and authentic leadership. Self-leadership entails self-awareness and intentionally feeling, thinking, and acting towards achieving personal objectives (O’Grady, 2021). It calls for personal discipline. Self-care is the practice or initiative of taking care of one’s health through such practices as eating healthy foods, dressing nicely, and exercising. Self-care activities foster a meaningful life outside work and maintain top performance at work (Ghossoub et al., 2018). Self-care is part of self-leadership, and it increases an individual’s ability to help other employees and perform routine activities.

According to the care model, adequate self-care increases the ability to perform all activities of daily living. An individual enjoys psychological and physical health, life satisfaction, and fulfillment. Inadequate self-face implies risks for poor health, dependence on others, psychological and physical limitations, thus poor-quality life (Ross et al., 2019).

Self-care and self-leadership are vividly reflected in the principles of authentic leadership. Authentic leadership means integrity and being honest to self. Authentic leadership principles affect self-care through self-concept and self-perception (Raso, 2019). An individual clearly understands their values and prioritizes their life, hence working towards them, leading to self-achievement and a better self (Ghossoub et al., 2018). Self-leadership is the first stage of leadership and entails working with little or no supervision. It entails following rules and performing activities without being followed. Self-leadership requires honesty to self. An individual sets personals regulations, goals, and objectives and works towards them.

Effective self-care and self-leadership are important in the MSN informatics role. Self-care and self-leadership affect performance, job satisfaction, and the quality of relationships with others at the workplace (Ghossoub et al., 2018). Succeeding in self-care and self-leadership leads to a successful career life in my MSN role. Physical activity is an important self-care and self-leadership intervention. It requires initiative and discipline and has various benefits to the individual. It increases energy levels and improves an individual’s health (Ross et al., 2019). Periodic self-evaluations are an excellent strategy is improving self-care and self-leadership (Ghossoub et al., 2018). Self-evaluation provides individuals with information about their achievements and highlights strengths and weaknesses, allowing the individual to work on them. Self-care and self-leadership are thus important concepts in the contemporary world.
