Discussion 1: Leadership Theories in Practice

            Individuals apply various leadership theories to guide and influence their team members to achieve short-term and long-term organizational goals. According to Ibrahim and Daniel (2019), leadership is the process by which leaders use their power and skills to guide their followers toward achieving the desired organizational goals. This discussion presents insights from the selected articles, a leader applying such behaviors, and the extent to which these skills were effective.

The selected scholarly resources were educative and informative. One insight from these resources is that leaders use their skills, knowledge, and influence to create a healthy and conducive work environment for the nurses. A healthy environment enhances nurses’ job performance, resulting in quality patient care and health outcomes. Secondly, I learned that leadership behaviors influence the success of healthcare organizations. A healthcare organization using democratic leadership skills is likely to offer quality patient care and optimize patient health outcomes (Sfantou et al., 2017). These results are achieved by involving the employees while making key organizational decisions.

            A situation where I have witnessed these skills being applied is a dynamic healthcare organization. The leader was concerned and cared about nurses’ working environment and personal needs, and overall wellbeing. According to Permarupan et al. (2020), a healthy working environment reduces nurses’ emotional exhaustion and work-related distress. Therefore, applying these skills in the organization impacted the workplace positively. By creating a conducive work environment and caring about nurses’ personal needs and wellbeing, the leader enhanced their job performance, improving patient care and health outcomes. Positive patient outcomes then resulted in job satisfaction among the nurses.
