The national mental health act also helped understand the scope of nursing practice in mental healthcare to ensure the strategy complies with these policy stipulations. Under the national mental health act, school health programs have had marked success in reducing students’ mental health problems (O’Reilly et al., 2018). Other programs such as community programs and state-run community centers have helped reduce the rates of mental health issues and associated consequences such as violence.

The HIPAA act social media use and patient safety information use helped determine the best strategies to ensure the program will ensure patient information safety and compliance with healthy social media activities. Under the national information technology initiative, the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research (AHQR) stipulated effective healthcare technology use, especially electronic health records. These acts, regulations, and federal agencies helped shape and produce an effective strategy to manage adolescent mental health issues.

An online mental health program will significantly improve the quality of care, promote safety, and reduce healthcare costs. The online program is designed to maintain patient anonymity, increase confidentiality, and promote opening up. It will help the patients consult without fear, hence receiving better quality care (Sweeney et al., 2019). Online mental health programs will help all teens interact with each other; teens can also share personal experiences and strategies to cope with stressors and other mental health issues. In addition, teens will be taught acceptable behaviors to produce the desired mental health behavior and responsibility. Thus, online programs will help prevent adolescents’ violent behaviors, promoting adolescents’ safety (Skeen et al., 2019). Patients undergoing treatment for mental health issues require consistent follow-up. The online program will be a good follow-up platform to provide social support to these patients. These interventions will help prevent readmission due to complications and disease relapses that stretch healthcare systems’ resources (Sweeney et al., 2019). Thus, the proposed intervention will help contain these costs to the individual and the system. An online adolescents’ mental health program will thus help improve the quality of mental healthcare, ensure patient safety, and reduce healthcare costs.

Technology, Care Coordination, and Community Resources in Adolescent Mental Health

Healthcare technology has infiltrated all hospital sectors and is associated with improved efficiencies in healthcare institutions. Technology, especially social platforms and online resources, helps reach many people bypassing geographical barriers and space limitations. Technology will help provide resources to a bigger audience and ensure effective remote consultation. Care coordination is integral in healthcare settings. Preparing distinct roles for every healthcare provider also helps avoid confusion, increase accountability and responsibility, and improve interprofessional collaboration (Storm et al., 2019). Care coordination will also ensure interventions’ immediacy, preventing unnecessary delays that lead to disease complications. In addition, it will ensure high-quality decisions that incorporate inputs from all healthcare disciplines.

Community resources will be integral to this program. Community centers will be a source of referral of patients. Patients from community centers and rehabilitation centers will be referred to the online program for re-initiation into the community. The program will also receive patients from other community organizations such as faith-based organizations. The community centers will also refer adolescents who require mild therapies and physical care. Other community resources include community groups that integrate services for specific conditions (Castillo et al., 2019). Successful groups include the alcohol anonymous and schizophrenia groups. These groups are integral in providing social inclusion, reducing stigma and discrimination, and promoting mental wellness (Castillo et al., 2019). Healthcare institutions require constant reevaluations and quality improvement projects to maintain high-quality care, accommodate ever-changing patient needs, improve patient safety, and contain healthcare costs. Healthcare leaders should thus focus on current best evidence-based practices and implement them in healthcare institutions. Adolescent mental health is a global health issue requiring attention from healthcare institutions. An online adolescent’s mental health program will help many adolescents avoid or recover from mental health problems. Healthcare technology, care coordination, and community resources are also formidable tools in managing adolescent mental health issues. hEalthcare institutions should collaborate with the community and the state and federal governments to contain the rising burden of adolescent mental health issues.

Introduction

In your first three assessments, you applied new knowledge and insight gleaned from the literature, from organizational data, and from direct consultation with the patient, family, or group (and perhaps with subject matter and industry experts) to your assessment of the problem. You’ve examined the problem from the perspectives of leadership, collaboration, communication, change management, policy, quality of care, patient safety, costs to the system and individual, technology, care coordination, and community resources. Now it’s time to turn your attention to proposing an intervention (your capstone project), as a solution to the problem.

Preparation

In this assessment, you’ll develop an intervention as a solution to the health problem you’ve defined. To prepare for the assessment, think about an appropriate intervention, based on your work in the preceding assessments, that will produce tangible, measurable results for the patient, family, or group. In addition, you might consider using a root cause analysis to explore the underlying reasons for a problem and as the basis for developing and implementing an action plan to address the problem. Some appropriate interventions include the following:

    • Creating an educational brochure.
    • Producing an educational voice-over PowerPoint presentation or video focusing on your topic.
    • Creating a teaching plan for your patient, family, or group.
    • Recommending work process or workflow changes addressing your topic.

Plan to spend at least 3 direct practicum hours working with the same patient, family, or group.
