Transformative Leader Presence Essay
Transformative Leader Presence Essay
Transformation leadership is an approach of leadership whereby the leader strives to empower the followers to become leaders by promoting valuable and positive change in the systems and the people themselves. According to Collins et al. (2020), the primary focus of using this approach is supporting each other as a team, enhancing organizational growth and not necessarily focusing on immediate personal interests as a leader. This discussion presents the application of leadership skills and mindfulness in managing and sustaining practice change projects. In the application, I will explain how I can engage the project team through leadership, use mindfulness as a component of emotional intelligence to lead the project team, and influence an environment that will influence practice change.
Engaging the project team is one factor contributing to the project’s success. The most significant importance of project team engagement is boosting the morale and productivity of the team, which leads to better project performance (Shaukat et al., 2022). I will use my leadership competencies to engage the project team at all project implementation stages. As mentioned previously, my leadership competencies include promoting teamwork and collaboration, inspiring and motivating others, drive for results, and displaying honesty and integrity. Using these competencies, I will engage the project team by setting a clear vision and project goal in collaboration with the team, delegate tasks and trust project team members to deliver even challenging tasks, empower the team members to make decisions independently, and ensure that the project’s progress is shared regularly among the team members.

Furthermore, I will apply mindfulness as a component of emotional intelligence to lead the team. Mindfulness is an emotional intelligence tool used to understand an individual’s thoughts, feelings, and essential things to the individual. Additionally, mindfulness is based on the ability of the individual to give attention to what they are currently experiencing, accept it without judgment, and identify the sensations, emotions and thoughts (Jimenez-Picon et al., 2021). As a transformational leader, I am responsible for using mindfulness and emotional intelligence to ensure that all project team members are involved in the project’s implementation and encourage its sustenance. First and foremost, I will ensure that I am aware of my thoughts, feelings, current situations, and how the situations might influence project leadership and direction. Understanding one’s feelings and thoughts not only helps the individual understand other people’s feelings and emotions but also helps them to control them. Secondly, I will ensure that I do not judge situations based on my thoughts and emotions by controlling them as much as possible.
The impact of practice change projects is mainly felt through their sustenance and outcomes. Leaders must influence the current environment to ensure that the environment will sustain practice change. Similarly, I intend to influence the environment to sustain practice change in two ways; maximizing project ownership and involving staff and employees from all levels in decision-making. People are more likely to support and sustain change when they have a sense of ownership. Ownership is achieved by involving all staff and employees in decision-making and all stages of the implementation. Additionally, I will ensure no discrimination among the people involved in the project implementation, thus promoting acceptance and sustainability.
Being a transformative and present leader involves using leadership competencies to engage project team members and mindfulness and other emotional intelligence to sustain the project change. I intend to maximize promoting project ownership and control my emotions when engaging the project team.
